Firstly, Let me begin by analysing a few of the words featured within our tagul in order for you to be able to grasp exactly what sort of audience we are after.
- Careless - Instantly upon choosing our target audience age group (16-22)we decided one of the main characteristics associated with that age group is that they are careless. Teenagers and young adults are often stereotyped as being quite rebellious and interested in going out and partaking in drugs and alcohol. We thought this stereotype would be an interesting one to explore as it allows us to experiment with our 'character' and hopefully, offer an edgy, alternative video - which is exactly what we are going for. Similarly, having a character that is relatable to our audience is a massive bonus as they will be far more interested than if they were unable to relate to our character at all.
- Artistic - Seeing as we want our video to be 'indie', we feel an artistic twist on our video would enhance this theme massively. In discussion it became apparent to us that a majority of our age group are artistic in their own individual ways wether this be down to art, dance, music or even writing. By making our character, and essentially our video, artistic - we are allowing for the target audience to be able to relate to even the more minute details of our music video.
- Individual - Firstly, this characteristic directly links with our 'Alternative/Indie' music genre and so will of course attract that type of audience. However, by the term 'individual' we do not just mean music style. We feel that our target audience age group all appear to have their own unique, individual styles and this is something we would like to incorporate into our music video in order to give it that different, quirky touch.
In the above video we discussed the type of audience we particularly wanted our music video to appeal too. We came to the conclusion that our ideal audience would be both boys and girls between the ages of 16-22 seeing as we fall into that age range and we have a particular interest in 'indie/alternative' music and know that a large majority of our age group enjoy it too. We felt it necessary that we appealed to both genders as Lana Del Rays music is very versatile and not subject to just one gender.We decided that typical stereotypes of this target audience aren't necessarily the most positive characteristics due to the fact this age group is often closely linked to drugs, drink and non-stop partying however, these stereotypes helped us in terms of gaining inspiration for our music video. These particular stereotypes are often featured within this genre of music; Lana Del Rey can even be seen using them.
After some more discussion and confering with our teachers we have decided to have the age group of 16-18 as a niche audience as it is rather small and then have an age range of 16-22 as an overall target audience as it applies to more people, which will help with the marketing of our artist.
