As I mentioned before, we wanted to put some projections in our video. In this session we did both image projection and moving projection, we feel that this will make our video look more artsty and a little more entertaining for our niche target audience.
When doing our photograph projection we went back into the darkroom where we went for our trails. The darkroom was a perfect location for us due to the fact that it can give us guaranteed darkness - allowing the picture to shine brightly and vividly against Millies back. As Evie had the most experience with the projector she was in charge of positioning both Millie and the machine in order to get the best result possible.
The first image that we tested on the projector was an image of a sunset with pink, purple and orange under tones. This image links with the video as it is an establlishing shot, which we have featured and plan on continuing featuring in our video. Sunsets are a beautiful, natural occurrence - much like love - and they fit in with our nature theme. We have filmed a sunset in Faversham and the one in the image is pretty similar therefore, this shows some consistency within and throughout our work. For this to work successfully Millie had to be completely bareback, this is so that the colours would show up clearly without being held back by clothing. We feel the projections were effective and will help to create a more sophisticated final product.
The second image we used for our projection was the one of our friend Louis. Although we initially were set on the idea of including an image of Nova's 'boyfriend' we later decided after reviewing our shots that this was not a route that we wanted to go down - we put ourselves in our audience's shoes and concluded that if we saw that in a music video we wouldn't grasp the concept and wouldn't think it was clever, infact we would most likely laugh, which is most certainly not the reaction that we want people to have toward our video.
Majority of the camera work used for this part was simple panning up and down, we didn't want to distract from the images on my back.
We then moved onto some moving projected images. We wanted to include these as we feel that it is a unique idea and visually different from the rest of our video. We agreed that needed to be careful that the projection didn't end up looking like a green screen which is not the look we were going for for our video. We choose a cyrstal clear ocean as the video that we projected, the reason behind this was because it links with the locations used in our previous filming and it projected the best against Millie's skin.
For this projection we had to move out of the dark room and into our classroom so that we had a bigger blank canvas to work with. We also had to move so that we could use a projector linked to a computer so that we could project our video with ease. Millie wore an all white outfit to make it easier for the video to be seen if it were to be projected onto part of her clothing. Myself and Kate took charge of filming this scene and we chose to film wide shots and close ups as Millie was lip syncing, we wanted the shots to be focused with no distractions.
Review of Footage
In this clip you can see what the photograph projection looks like. I think it came out really well and most certainly has that artistic flare that our video really needs. Obviously, from this clip, the footage doesn't look amazing however, Once edited, cropped and put against the music I feel that this can look professional and sleek. The only downside to this clip is that Nova's hair. However, it was the only way that we could successfully do projection therefore, it is something I am willing to compromise on.
